The first step is conducted via phone or e-mail. The therapist
will gather information about your child, the child's needs, your
expectations, and provide you with information about Florida Pediatric
Therapy's services.
The therapist uses information from the conversation to make
preliminary plans regarding the best measures to use during the
evaluation and discusses the evaluation plan with the family.
During this phone call the therapist will listen carefully
to you and ask questions about your child's speech, language, hearing,
health history, caregivers, and daily routines. The therapist may
also ask about your child's likes and dislikes, favorite things, and
eating habits.
The therapist will provide you with
information about what to expect during your evaluation (it will be
different for a three year old who is not talking and a three year old
who can't say words with k and g in them). |
|
The evaluation will be conducted in your child's natural environment
(home, school, day care, grandma's house) and tailored to your child's
needs. It is important for a parent or other person familiar with
the child to be present during the evaluation. Siblings are
also encouraged to participate. Often there is a large play
component to the evaluation during which it is best to let things occur
as they usually would with your child.
The therapist will guide the evaluation through various stages
tailored to get a good picture of your child. You will be asked
for information about whether we are getting a good picture of your
child.
At the end of the evaluation, results and recommendations will be
shared with you immediately and you will have the opportunity to ask
questions. We will also provide you with information and handouts
that will help with your child's specific needs.

At the end of the evaluation you will be provided with immediate
feedback regarding the therapist's impressions, results, and
recommendations. Many families have additional questions after the
evaluation and we are happy to answer these via phone or
e-mail.
Shortly after the evaluation session you will be provided with a
thorough written report including detailed results that can be shared
with your child's school and physician, recommendations, suggested
therapy goals (if necessary), and strategies to get you started (if
necessary). The therapist will be available to answer any
additional questions you might have.
If your child needs therapy we will help you schedule a time and date
that works well for your family and additional information and resources
will be provided to you. |
