Getting Started:Step 1: PHONE CALL Call for an initial phone conversation about your child and their needs. Step 2: EVALUATION Therapist comes to your child's home, school, or childcare for the initial evaluation of your child. This evaluation is not intended to diagnose autism or other disorders on the spectrum. It is designed to determine whether your child qualifies for therapy services and to help the therapist design an appropriate intervention plan for your child based on your concerns and your child's strengths and needs. Your therapist may also refer you for other evaluations (hearing, sensory integration, etc.). Your pediatrician or medical practitioner may use this evaluation to aid in their diagnosis. Step 3: PLAN The therapist develops the intervention plan and begins creating or teaching you to create the environmental supports needed to help your child (e.g., picture schedules, calendars, social stories, adapted books, etc.). Step 4: THERAPY If necessary, individual therapy begins. The goal of therapy is to address your child's unique needs quickly and effectively within the context of their daily routines. The therapist provides direct therapy during the session and works to incorporate all therapy techniques into routines that will work throughout the day for your child. Communication therapy is frequently integrated with other therapies (sensory integration (SI), occupational therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), applied behavioral analysis (ABA Behavior Therapist), etc.). Step 5: ANALYZE and UPDATE You are involved in your child's therapy and kept up to date on their progress. Data is collected regularly to document progress and determine any modifications that need to be made. Some frequently used Treatment Strategies to facilitate the ability, need, and desire to communicate
